Development
Program members learn from each other and from "mentor" skippers who volunteer with the program. There is no formal instruction. The more bookings you arrange and the more questions you ask, the more you will learn.
Boat Care and Maintenance
With guidance and direction, Program members learn how to properly maintain and care for the boat. Members are responsible for commissioning the boat at the beginning of the season and decommissioning the boat at the end of the season. This can be a valuable experience if you are considering boat ownership in the future. All Shark Program members are required to complete a minimum of 10 hours of maintenance work a year including work during the Club’s launch and haul-out weekends.
Skipper Certification
To qualify as a Skipper, members must:
Adult Learn to Sail programs, from introductory courses to intermediate courses, are offered by BS&BC at reasonable additional cost. For course information see
www.burlbay.com.The Shark Program boat can be booked for morning, afternoon or evening timeslots. Bookings can be made one week in advance. Special booking arrangements will be available for events and regattas. On Club race nights preferred bookings will be given to Program members who want to race. Single-handed sailing will not be allowed. Limited guest privileges will be available.
BS&BC Membership
BS&BC offers its members many social events and activities, such as the "Swinefest" and Regattas, cruising and racing seminars, the Commodore's Ball, and "Sailpast". Club facilities include the clubhouse, and BBQ facilities on the docks. Associate and Intermediate members are non-voting members of the club.
